In pursuit of the ultimate eco-car, Toyota are developing a range of clean and green technologies for today and tomorrow.
For the next few decades, petrol and diesel will continue to be the mainstream automotive fuels. Although Toyota are focused on reducing the consumption of these fuels by pursuing technological innovation in their vehicles, they believe that, in the future, different vehicle types with different energy sources will have to co-exist.
The green area below positions full hybrid (such as Prius and Auris) as the core technology for 21st century mobility. It foresees a bright future for the mass commercialisation of models built on a hybrid platform.
To the far left, you can see that Toyota envisages battery-powered electric applications meeting the need for short-range commuter and small delivery vehicles. And to the far right, you can see how fuel cell applications have the potential to meet commercial transport needs in the future.
Each technology takes into consideration our customers’ needs and driving habits, energy sources and supply, as well as market constraints – ensuring that we continue to deliver “the right car, for the right place, and at the right time.”
Petrol and diesel come at a price, and not just at the pump. Engines using these fuels emit greenhouse gases which contribute to climate change, as well as other harmful particles that pollute the atmosphere. As petrol and diesel will continue to power vehicles for the foreseeable future, Toyota are dedicated to developing technologies that continuously reduce these emissions.
